In a press release, the Cavaliers say Kevin Love will be getting consultation from specialists at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City for the fractured left hand fifth metacarpal. The treatment will be done in step with the treatment Love has received, and will receive, from the Cavs’ doctors and the Cleveland Clinic.
Per the Cavs, Love’s treatment plan and timetable for a return will be determined after he visits with the specialists. Initial reports indicate Love will miss 6-8 weeks with the injury, although the team has not yet confirmed that timeline. They have not said when Love’s visit will take place or when they’ll update his status.
Love hurt his hand in the first quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Pistons. He left the game, underwent x-rays and drove back to Cleveland with training staff before the game had ended.
Jae Crowder will start in his place Wednesday against the Heat.
