With opening night a few days away, the Cavaliers have trimmed their roster down to 14.
Accoesing to press releases sent out by the team Saturday evening, the Cavs have waived guard Isaiah Taylor, forward Bonzie Colson, guard Kobi Simmons and forward Emmanuel Terry.
Taylor is the most notable cut of the group, as he had played the most minutes and looked to have the inside track on the Cavs’ lone open roster spot. But this week, he suffered a stress fracture that could keep him out for a month. Point guard also isn’t a position where the Cavs are lacking bodies.
Colson, Simmons and Terry are all candidates to end up on the Canton Charge, the Cavs’ G-League affiliate. A source tells Fear the Sword that Terry, who was signed by Cleveland earlier this week, signed with the team with the understanding that he’d likely end up with the Charge. After being waived by the Nuggets - who do not have a G-League team - Terry wanted to end up on a team with one.
The Cavs now could leave a roster spot open, but will look at what players are waived by other teams before making a final call. They open the season on Wednesday against the Raptors.
