The Cavaliers try to close out this series against the Toronto Raptors at Quicken Loans Arena on Monday night.
Obviously it’s a closeout game, and the Cavs are going to get Toronto’s best shot as their season is on the line. As I have written repeatedly, Toronto upgraded their entire style of play this season to try and beat LeBron James. While it worked in the regular season, it’s come to a crashing halt against him in the playoffs. The Raptors are essentially playing for nothing more than pride right now, but the optics of finishing this series with even one win is very different than getting swept.
For the Cavs, the biggest incentive to end this series tonight is rest. No matter when the Boston-Philadelphia series ends (tip off for that game is tonight at 6 p.m.), winning tonight would give the Cavs a few extra days off. Remember, this is the only series without two scheduled days off between any of the games. The rest will be good for LeBron, obviously, but it’s arguably even more important for the less superhuman members of the Cavaliers— especially Kevin Love, Kyle Korver and J.R. Smith.
