Ahead of the NBA Draft, the Cavaliers got a closer look at one of the players they might take at No. 8 overall.
Per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Cleveland hosted point guard Trae Young for a secret workout last Saturday. No details were offered up on how the workout went or what it entailed, but it it lends credence to the idea that Young is very much in play for Young at No. 8:
Source: Trae Young conducted a secret workout with the Cavs on Saturday. If Michael Porter is gone, it seems to be a toss-up at the moment between Young and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for Cleveland at #8. We've given Shai the nod in our latest mock today: https://t.co/hpiDE2e70Y

Per Givony, it’s a “toss-up” between Young and Kentucky’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander if Michael Porter Jr. isn’t available. Currently. Givony has Gilgeous-Alexander mocked to the Cavs ahead of Young.
Young be an interesting pick for the Cavs. There’s potential for him to be a star, but it’ll take some work for him to get there and it’s unclear if he’d be able to contribute right away if LeBron James re-signs. Additionally, he could be a player teams covet if he’s available and the Cavs look to make a deal on draft night.
