In the wake of LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cleveland Cavaliers must adjust and figure out what direction they are going in next season.
The team had loaded on veterans over the last four years, but with LeBron gone those veterans feel out of place. Jeff Green had been very productive for the Cavs last season, outperforming modest expectations and making good on his minimum deal. With the Cavs retooling, Green is drawing interest from other teams:
Wizards, needing to replace bench production of @mikescott after he agreed to terms with Clippers, have contacted Cavs’ UFA @unclejeffgreen, per sources.

It’s unclear whether or not the Cavs will shoot for the playoffs next season, but even if they do I don’t believe Green would make much sense for the team. He was at his best last season when he wasn’t asked to create shots and attacked teams off-ball.
We’ve seen Green on teams that lacked players that could perform well on a high usage rate, and the results are almost always ugly. If the Cavs rebuild, he makes even less sense as his reps would be better off going to someone like Cedi Osman.
Green gave the Cavs more than they had any right to expect, but it’s probably best for both sides if they move on from each other.
