The date for LeBron James’ return to Cleveland has been set. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James and the Lakers will play the Cavs in Cleveland on Nov. 21:
LeBron James will make his return to Cleveland to play the Cavs for the first time as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 21, league sources tell ESPN.— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) August 8, 2018
The first of two matchups between the Lakers and Cavs comes early in the season. At this time, it is unknown when Cleveland will go west and play the Lakers in Los Angeles. The Cavs do typically go on a road trip in March when the Mid-American Conference tournament takes place at Quicken Loans Arena, so it’s possible the match-up could take place then.
It is good that this game will be out of the way early in the season. For the Cavs, much focus will be put on this game and the emotion that is sure to come with it. This is also likely to be the highest profile game of the Cavs’ season. But in getting it out of the way around a month into the season, Cleveland can continue to move on and not look back.
It also remains to be seen how the team will honor James, but there is likely to be some kind of celebration. It also seems unlikely that James’ return will be anything like when he first returned to Cleveland as a member of the Heat in 2010.
