Kevin Love says he wants to stay with the Cavs, will ‘always do right’ by Cleveland

The Cavs’ All-Star forward gave a one-on-one interview to

In a new interview with, Cavs forward Kevin Love says that he wants to remain with the team through its rebuild.

“I do want to be here. I always have,” Love told “I say that knowing it’s the NBA and it’s a business. I think especially after seeing last year, the summer leading up to last year and this summer, the changeover is like unprecedented so you don’t know what is going to happen.

“If they decide to go completely young … and that could be the case, but it’s funny, my agent didn’t call me one time this summer to say, ‘Hey, you’re getting traded, there’s talks that this is happening.’ Of course, somehow it’s still out there and people are talking about, ‘Oh, Kevin would be great here or great there.’ I just keep it moving and try to do right by these guys because we have a good group.”

Later on Love said that he will “always do right by Cleveland.” The interview is worth a read, as he talks about playing with Collin Sexton, why he is a fan of new head coach John Beilein, how Beilein can help him get better, why he likes the tougher practices the team has had, and more.

But the comments about being traded are the main headline here. To be cynical, it’s the right PR move for Love to say this as the season gets going. But remember how fast things can change in the league — consider Russell Westbrook’s exodus from the Thunder for instance. Even if Love says this, he could get dealt - which, to his credit, he acknowledged.

Love, though, should also help this team be better and help Sexton, Cedi Osman, Darius Garland and the many other young players on the team develop. He can be a locker room leader, a culture setter and take pressure off of the young players as they develop. As long as that partnership benefits everyone — and the Cavs don’t think dealing him is as a valuable as keeping him — Love will probably be around.
