Cavs rookie Kevin Porter Jr. .might be back as soon as tonight.
According to the latest injury report, Porter Jr. is listed probable for Monday night’s game in Detroit. Porter Jr. has been out around three weeks due to a left knee sprain. On Jan. 9, the team said that he’d miss 4-6 weeks due to the injury.
If Porter Jr. can play, it’d be a boost to a rotation that is thin at the moment and to a team that is on a seven game losing streak. The 19-year-old has been one of the team’s biggest bright spots this season and was showing some real signs of growth before his injury. For the year, in 34 games, he’s averaging 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
With him back, it would likely mean Alfonzo McKinnie (currently on a 10-day deal, but likely to be with the Cavs for the whole season after the trade deadline) loses some minutes. But it also could mean Matthew Dellavedova is complete cut from the rotation. His minutes have already been cut and there’s an argument to be made he’s not providing much in the few minutes he is playing.
