According to the latest team injury reports released by the NBA, Cavs rookie guard Darius Garland will miss Tuesday’s game against the Pelicans to rest. Additionally, fellow rookie Kevin Porter Jr. is listed as questionable. He missed 10 games before playing last night in Detroit, but twisted his ankle in the first half.
Aside from the previously injured Dylan Windler, Brandon Knight and Ante Zizic, no other Cavaliers are listed on the injury report. It is unclear who will step into Garland’s spot in the starting lineup.
Tuesday will be the first game Garland has missed this season and is likely a smart precaution for a player playing his first full NBA season. It’s good that he’s been healthy all year, but he did miss last year after tearing his meniscus at Vanderbilt. In 47 games, he’s played 30.1 minutes per game while averaging 12.2 points and 3.6 assists per game.
As for Porter Jr., it would also be prudent to be cautious with him. He just returned from injury and there’s no reason to ask too much of him too soon.
The Cavs and Pelicans tip off at 7:30 p.m. on tonight in Cleveland.
