Collin Sexton out for Cavs’ preseason opener

Sexton’s 2020-21 season debut will be delayed.

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Collin Sexton won’t be available for the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight against the Indiana Pacers. As first reported by cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, Sexton twisted his ankle a few days ago, and that the injury is not considered serious.

Sexton was a lock to start, so it’s unclear who will take this spot in the lineup. There’s also an open question about who will start at small forward, be it Cedi Osman, top pick Isaac Okoro, or Dylan Windler. Kevin Love and others have talked about a Darius Garland, Osman, Okoro, Love, and Andre Drummond lineup, so perhaps Cavs head J.B. Bickerstaff will start there. Also expect a lot of tinkering Bickerstaff to see what lineups he does and does not like.

Sexton has never missed a game in his NBA career to date. Saturday marks the first Cavs preseason game of the year (and their first game since March) as part of a four-game preseason slate. Cleveland’s regular season starts on Dec. 23 at home against the Charlotte Hornets.
