According to the team’s official injury report submitted to the NBA, Cavs center is out for Wednesday nights’ Cavs-76ers game with a calf strain. It is not clear when Drummond suffered the injury or how long he’ll be out.
With Drummond out, either Tristan Thompson or Larry Nance Jr. will start alongside Kevin Love in the frontcourt. Drummond’s time with Cleveland has been a mixed bag so far and he’s been off of the floor late for two second-half comeback wins the team’s had. His health comes first, but it’d be good for him to get more court time to be better integrated with the team. It’s also a bummer to not get Drummond vs. Joel Embiid. In five games, all starts, he’s averaging 12.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
The injury report also indicates that Dante Exum, Alfonzo McKinnie and Dylan Windler are all out. Windler is obviously out for the year with a stress reaction, while McKinnie continues to deal with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. As for Exum, he suffered a sprain ankle against the Heat on Monday and did not return to the game. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out for.
