It feels incredibly tone deaf to aggregate a bunch of links and make wisecracks about daily NBA news today. Wednesday evening, NBA players made their anger, pain, and frustration known when they decided they would not be taking the court to continue the 2020 NBA Playoffs. LeBron James, arguably the greatest player of all time, issued a tweet that crystallized how they feel:
FUCK THIS MAN!!!! WE DEMAND CHANGE. SICK OF IT
— LeBron James (@KingJames) August 26, 2020
Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Cleveland players also chimed in, even while away from the bubble:
If you can watch, cheer, celebrate and share in their pain on the court, you should share in their pain off the court and show empathy for them if you value them as human beings acknowledge that they are hurting! Ask why? They are more than entertainment!
— J.B. Bickerstaff (@jbbickerstaff_) August 26, 2020
We have the strongest, most unified league in the world!!! #change

I think it speaks volume that teams are boycotting games.

Like Bickerstaff said, these athletes are more than just your source of entertainment. They’re human beings just like you and I. They’re hurting. And this year alone they’ve all seen the police killings of George Floyd, a Black man in Minnesota, Breonna Taylor, a Black woman in Kentucky, and on Sunday, the police in Kenosha, WI, shot Jacob Blake, 29, in the back several times as he tried to get into his vehicle.
So, yeah. Today we won’t be sharing the latest NBA news and happenings. Sports should be the last thing on everyone’s mind. Instead, we’ll be sharing links that are far more important for the future of this country.
