It’s no secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been ravaged by injuries to start this season. Here’s who all is missing time right now for the Cavs as they head into their Monday tilt against the Memphis Grizzlies:
- Kevin Love (Calf)
- Dylan Windler (Hand)
- Matthew Dellavedova (Concussion)
- Dante Exum (Calf)
- Kevin Porter Jr. (Personal)
Darius Garland (Shoulder) and Collin Sexton (Ankle) are also both dealing with ailments but they’re not expected to miss as much time as the players mentioned above. Because of this, the Cavs were able to apply for the NBA’s hardship exception. The hardship exception is a temporary roster spot that must be granted by the league. It allows a team to exceed the 15-man maximum roster when it has at least four players who are sick or injured for longer than two weeks.
The Cavs’ application was approved and with their new exception, the team signed former Sacramento Kings guard Yogi Ferrell to a ten-day contract. Ferrell will be entering his fifth year in the league and has averaged 7.8 points on 42.2% shooting to go with 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Last season with the Kings, he averaged 4.4 points on 42.0% shooting to go with 1.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Ferrell will be able to address the sudden need for depth at the guard position, especially if Garland and Sexton continue to miss time and can provide relief when either of them come back. According to sources, Ferrell will be available to play for the Cavs tonight against the Grizzlies.
