Darius Garland is going to be around USA Basketball for a bit longer.

Garland, along with Detroit’s Saddiq Bey and San Antonio’s Keldon Johnson, will be part of the Team USA roster for upcoming exhibition games that start on Saturday. Garland has been playing with the USA Select Team, which practices with and scrimmages against the main roster in Las Vegas ahead of the Olympics.

Garland won’t go to Tokyo, as it’s expected that Phoenix’s Devin Booker and Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday will join the team before the Olympics when the NBA Finals end.

This is a big deal for Garland. It was a sign of what the broader basketball world thought of him that he got invited in the first place. But this is a sign that he is performing well in scrimmages and that he’s making an impression on Team USA coaches. As he heads into year three of his career, that’s a very good sign for him and the Cavaliers.
