Congratulations to everyone for finally making it to Friday Evan Mobley day. Please celebrate responsibly.

The first sip

It’s been 182 days since we last saw Mobley take an NBA court. Mobley played his best in the Cavs’ biggest game last season as he finished the play-in game with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks. He opened the scoring for the Cavs by nailing a corner three that whipped the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse crowd into a frenzy.

Mobley sets the ceiling for this team. He showed that he can transform the defense alongside Jarrett Allen last season which gave them a base level of competence. What does this defense look like if he can take another step forward? Conversely, his offensive game was unrefined partially because the inconsistent jump shot. What does this offense look like if you add in an all-star guard in Donovan Mitchell with an improved shooting Mobley?

There’s been a lot of speculation and rumors about how much Mobley has expanded his game since the last time we saw him. We aren’t going to find out if the speculation and rumors are accurate toinght, but we should get our first glimpse at what kind of player he’s going to be for the Cavs this season.

Mobley and the Cavs take on the Orlando Magic tonight at 7.
