The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that Evan Mobley will be out 1 to 2 weeks and will miss Wednesday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a right ankle sprain. This isn’t the end of the world, but it certainly isn’t the news you want to hear after what the team went through last season.

Mobley missed five games last spring with a left ankle sprain so this isn’t the same injury that held him out last March. Overall, the Cavs went 4-9 in the 13 games Mobley missed last season.
It will take some time for this team to gel with the addition of a high usage player like Donovan Mitchell. You’d like to see this starting five get as many reps as possible against other NBA competition prior to the games counting, but they likely won’t have that luxury.
The Cavs are 16 days away from starting the regular season on the road against the Toronto Raptors. Based on the initial reporting, Mobley should be good to go for the season opener but we’ll wait and see.
