Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland has left the team’s Saturday home against the Los Angeles Lakers with a neck strain. The team says he is doubtful to return.
Garland appeared to hit his head on the floor during the game and then did not return. Garland missed a game earlier this week with a neck issue as well. Isaac Okoro started the second half in Garland’s place.
For Cleveland, this continues to be the season from injury hell. To date, this has been of of those seasons where they just can’t get the healthy all at the same time. Saturday appeared to be that day, as Okoro from a knee injury and Donovan Mitchell return from a hamstring injury. The Cavs still have a few players — Dean Wade, Ty Jerome and Ricky Rubio — out for one reason or another, but this was them inching towards full health. Garland’s injury pushes that further away.
Garland has already missed five games this season due to injury. It is not yet clear what his status is for the Cavaliers’ game on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.
In 14 minutes against the Lakers, Garland had 6 points on 2-6 shooting and 3 assists.
