A concentrator is essentially a multiport repeater. A concentrator connects several wires of different branches, for example the star topology connector that connects different stations. Hubs can not filter the data; therefore, data packets are sent to all connected devices. In other words, the collision domain of all hosts connected via the hub remains one. In addition, they do not have the intelligence to discover the best way to group data, which leads to inefficiencies and waste.
